Eric Amaral

Eric Amaral is a Toronto-based actor and deviser.

Eric grew up in Bolton, Ontario, just 30 minutes from Toronto without traffic (or 45-60 minutes with). From a young age, Eric knew he wanted to perform. He was always putting on little plays for his family and friends and staging driveway performances for his neighbors to watch. At 16, Eric began his acting career with a role in a web-TV show that ran for two seasons, playing a side character. By 18, he had landed lead roles in both a TV movie and a TV show with the same company. During high school, Eric participated in the “Drama Arts Advantage Program” and earned both the Drama Award and the Best Performance Award for his various performances.

Eric went on to pursue acting at York University’s BFA Theatre program, where he developed his skills as an actor, creator, and director. Throughout his four years, he performed in various Theatre@York productions, including the Devised Theatre Festival and the CODA Project. He also served as an assistant director for MainStage shows, such as love in the time of werewolves by David Yee. Additionally, Eric acted, created, and directed a devised show for Theatre@York’s 2022-2023 season titled Uniquely Shaped Vegetables. Eric’s career has continued to flourish, over the past two years, he has landed roles in two short films with York University at Cinespace Studios, where he worked on green screen for the first time. He has also secured recurring roles in two TV shows. Beyond screen acting, Eric performed in Alumnae Theatre’s New Ideas Festival, which led to an opportunity to act in a play at Theatre Gargantua. He also explored voice acting for the first time, discovering how much fun it can be and adding another dimension to his repertoire.

Eric embraces a variety of roles, from comedic characters to 2SLGBTQ+ representations, and is always open to new opportunities. Acting and performing bring him immense joy, and he’s all-in on pursuing his dreams. Waking up each day knowing he is chasing his passion is what fuels his drive and creativity.
